No Stress

Are you still just rushing through the day?

I'm not sure what happened to me really, I remember being a proper young generation X, university student, waitress, ski bum, trying to surf around Australia and promising myself I would always choose the lifestyle and relaxing over work and stress. We were all so sure we would all choose life and not turn into our parents.

I started nursing and travelling, I became an agency nurse, in 3 countries a flight nurse, and a pro sailor.  Before I knew it I was living a super fast paced life fueled on coffee and cat naps.  I think my motto was live like a rock star and sleep when you die,I prided myself of being a go getter, going at everything full throttle, like a bull at a gate.

I found when I was trauma nursing I could not run from trauma, it caught up with me in the most unexpected ways. It is easy in the healthcare world, seeking counselling is a normal vice to cope with the expectedly stressful hospital based life

I noticed working in yachting and expat communities teaching first aid, my courses could easily become counselling sessions for people needing to get traumatic experiences off their chest. I also learned that everyone has experienced at least one really traumatic experience in life, many  of you have had more.

Living in a foreign county is stressful, experiencing  and witnessing a traumatic injury or illness in a foreign country can be terrifying. I personally have experienced all of the above and soon realised I was constantly living in a heightened state of fear. I had Post Traumatic Stress from life in general. I had been on the run for years. Planes, trains and automobiles, different cultures, different beds. I felt it was time to surrender to the adrenals and experience nothing for a while. Nothing can quickly become nerve wracking too, as many of us do not know how to stop.

Stress creates behaviour patterns and effects how we perceive situations. Let's use an example, If you are eating yoghurt at the time you hear your pet got run over, you will probably hate yoghurt for the rest of your life and have no idea why. You may continue to eat yoghurt, but when ever you do, your body goes into a state of stress, just at the subconscious memory and you start to feel sad or strange, with no idea why. Before you know it, you have created a story around this feeling (which is nothing to do with yoghurt or your pet) and it, this story, becomes a part of your self image.

I became fascinated by this concept and discovered the world of kinesiology, neuroscience, neurokinetics and epigenetics. I soon realised I was running on old programs, my mind was in control of my life and I felt like I was just running, rushing everywhere. One day it clicked and the whole thing seemed ridiculous.I had to calm down. I started looking more into what was going on.

I realised this knowledge of mental health was a critical facet of human existence, it is totally up there with eating well and fitness. I call it mind nutrition. It is the cultivation of healthy thoughts, perspectives and patterns. Like anything the more we practice it, the easier it gets.

I specialise in remote stress relief and coaching for travelers, yachties and expats in crisis all over the world, whom are far away from their families and friends. I have been navigating health care systems all over the world as a flight nurse and yacht medic for years. I have seen a big gap in access to stress coaching and education in these communities, I realsied this is how I can best serve my community.

You must know there are techniques to help you move forward after a traumatic experience. I am backed up by a highly skilled crisis management team and I have an international database of practitioners so we can work with you in a crisis to get you and your crew back on board.

Mind Nutrition
After a burn out it is really hard to feel grounded and make good decisions. Rewire your neural pathways through feeding your mind. Little by little the happy thoughts set off a ripple effect, but to give these thoughts integrity, you need to chill. They say the mind is like a jar of muddy water, you just need to stop and sit, let the mud settle ,so you can see the clarity in the jar.Read More HERE
