In the Balearic and surrounding Mediterranean islands I would also suggest a water softener and then a whole house filter at the mains or pump site. You can go without the softener, but them you will clog up the subsequent filters faster. Yes, it's crazy but this is what we need to get clean water. The RO unit is also important to get rid of the high salt content common in these parts.
